Malaga.chat

Your privacy

Malaga.chat works without an account and without giving your details. This is what happens to what you type, with no small print.

  • No account

To use the chat we don’t ask for your name, email or phone number. You open the page and ask.

  • No cookies or tracking

We don’t use cookies, third-party analytics or advertising. We don’t sell anything: neither your data nor your attention.

  • What we store

To improve the chat we store each question with its answer, and your rating if you give one, anonymously: without your IP or any personal data. Only a random conversation number, created when a conversation starts (and kept with it in your history, if you save it), so that questions from the same conversation can be read together. When something about Málaga is answered by searching the internet, that answer (with its sources and date, never your question or what you typed) may be used to answer other people who ask something similar, always citing the original websites.

  • Error reports and requests

If you tell us something isn’t right (“Something wrong?”) or ask for your activity, association or venue to be listed (“Organising something in Málaga?”), we store what you write together with the page and the entry you are talking about, without your IP. Your email, if you give it, is stored separately, only to reply to you, and deleted after 90 days. To prevent abuse we count submissions per IP in memory only, without writing it down. None of this is published or changes any data by itself: we review it by hand and only use what we can verify in a public source.

  • History on your device

Your conversations (each question with its answer and cards, and the date) are saved only in this browser, in its local storage (IndexedDB), so you can reopen them from the chat history, offline too. They are never sent to our server. The last 50 are kept. It is on by default: in the chat history you can turn off “Save history on this device”, delete each conversation, or all of them with “Clear history”; it is also deleted when you clear this site’s data in your browser. If you install Malaga.chat as an app, the browser also keeps a copy of the website itself (not of your questions) so it opens offline.

  • Shared conversations

If you share a conversation, anyone with the link can see it, including your questions; whoever shares it can stop sharing it at any time.

  • Artificial intelligence

Answers are written by Claude, Anthropic’s AI model. Under its API terms, Anthropic does not train its models on this data and only keeps it for a limited time. Internet searches send only the question, with no personal data.

  • Photos and maps

Some photos are loaded directly from Wikimedia Commons, and news thumbnails and cinema posters from each outlet’s or cinema’s website; as when visiting any website, those servers see your IP address. We prepare maps on our own server, and Google Maps only opens if you tap its link.

  • Asking by voice

The microphone uses your own browser’s dictation: in Chrome and Android the audio is transcribed by Google; in Safari and iPhone, by Apple. Malaga.chat neither receives nor stores the audio, only the text of the question, as if you had typed it. It only listens while the button is red.

  • Server logs

Like any website, the server records technical data about each visit (such as the IP and time) for security and to prevent abuse. They are not stored together with your questions.

  • Official forms

Some procedures have a «Fill in the form» button: the official PDF is filled in your browser with what you type; you download it, sign it and file it yourself. Those details are not sent to our server, don’t go through the chat and are not stored: they’re deleted when you close the form. Malaga.chat never signs or files anything for you.

  • Don’t type personal data

Your ID number, address or health data are not needed. For questions about your area, the neighbourhood or district is enough. If you type your ID number, phone, email, bank account, card, social security number, address or name, the chat removes them in your browser before sending the question and tells you: they never reach our server and are not stored. Health data can’t be detected this way: please don’t type it.

Who is responsible and your rights

Malaga.chat is an independent, non-profit project. Its owner is also the controller of the data described on this page.

For any question about your data, write to us through the “Something wrong?” form at the foot of the cards and pages, or from this form (choosing “Something else”).

What you type is used to answer you, to improve the service and to prevent abuse; your email, only if you give it, to reply to you.

You can ask for access to, correction or deletion of your data, object to its use or ask for it to be restricted. As questions are stored without any personal data, to find a specific conversation we will need you to tell us what you wrote and when.

If you think we haven’t handled it properly, you can complain to the Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD).
